I happened to reach a discussion of the ways to solve some of the problems of our health care system that really showed me how frustration can bring even otherwise reasonable people to lose perspective.
First Matthew Yglesias offered an analysis of the problem of getting a good value for our money in which he explained that part of the solution is to crush the doctor’s lobby, his discussion was then followed by a lot of comments and other responses.
I have to agree with Ron Chusid that crushing doctors is the last tactic the Democrats should want to endorse.
The problem is real doctors are so scared of being sued that they refer to many people to specialist and this costs a lot of money, the specialist in their turn want to cover their asses too so they send most of this people to unnecessary tests which cost much more money and what happens is the very frustrating scenario that the more money the states put into the health care system the more money gets lost on doctors protecting themselves instead on the actual needs.
It is going to be a challenge for Obama to heal the health system, it is going to be a challenge to break the vicious cycle but the problem is real if doctors do too little they are getting sued if they do too much we complain that they use our money in the wrong way and for the wrong purpose.
The solutions would come from realizing that both sides feel threatened and find another ways to restore the trust, when doctors and clients are alienated part of the solution is in enabling cooperation again.
