Good analysis. It may not be right in all parts but it's good analysis. I don't see any of the debilitating partisanship in it that almost always destroys a poster's position around here.

A related thought: I could never understand how the Bush administration got Congress to go along with a vote on the war BEFORE the November 02 midterm elections. I think lots of things would have been different if Dems could have waited until after the midterms to vote on the war.Why did Congress go along with the vote then that put so many Dems in the unenviable spot of having to take a tough position?

You gotta give the 'Nay' voters credit. They stood on principle.

Some of the 'Yea' voters were forced to do all kinds of mental gymnastics to deny and/or explain their votes. Kerry was one, of course.

What makes you think they stood on principle? Why don't you think they did what they thought would help them get re-elected?
