There's no backlash against Buchanan because most people can see the difference between criticizing policy decisions made by Israeli politicians and military officers, which is what Buchanan did, and maligning an entire people, which is what Gibson did.

That should read, 'What many of the less intelligent and educated portion of American society believes.'
