'open' letters are written by those who know with great certainty that if they sent the letter to the intended target it would not be taken seriously because the writer is a nut job. So they use the excuse of the 'open' letter to preach their bile and lies.

Everyone knows this, by the way. Everyone, that is, except the idiots who post 'open' letters on the internet.
