Former President Jimmy Carter said in a Washington Post Op Ed article that there will be no peace in the Middle East as long as Israel refuses to honor pre-1967 borders and continues to occupy Arab lands.
'Palestinians see their remnant territories reduced to little more than
human dumping grounds surrounded by a provocative 'security barrier' that embarrasses Israel's friends and that fails to bring safety or stability,' he said in the article published on Aug. 1.
He also called on Israel to honor key U.N. resolutions, official American policy and to stop oppressing the Palestinians.
In a blow to the Bush Administration, Carter said progress in the Middle East is impeded by Washington's 'strange policy that dialogue on
controversial issues will be extended only as a reward for subservient behavior and will be withheld from those who reject U.S. assertions.'
