Israel needs a blue water navy. Is it too cheap to buy one?

Everyone is aware Iran is Israel's enemy. Yet Israel is powerless to deter Iran because it is beyond the range of Israel's conventional weapons. That is what Navys are for. For $10 Billion Israel could have a formidible naval force that could strike Iran at will. I have asked this question before and still dont know the answer. Israel has access to the money needed to buy a navy. ( and I dont mean the US treasury! ) Why will Israel not spend the money it needs to to insure its survival?

Iran has been arming and financing Hizbullah since the last Israeli occupation of Lebanon. Your dodging the question. Israel would be a lot more effective fighting the Arabs if it was not accepting money and the strings that come with that money from the US. For example, maybe it could have expelled the Palestinians from Gaza back when it had the Sinaii. Even the fight in Lebanon today seems to be slowed by its thinking it can get someone else to take control of Lebanon and disarm Hizbollah.

That would only bury it faster. Continued, long-term survival depends on making peace with its neighbours. Threatening them with annihilation and committing genocide just convinces them Israel has to go.

Israel should make peace now while it can. In the long run, with a policy of hostility, it is doomed because it has to import 99% of its energy. It gets most of that from countries so hostile that it has no diplomatic relations. With rising oil prices, Israel and the USA will get poorer, and the surrounding countries will get richer. Further with global warming, Israel will need ever more water and energy just to break even.

You folks here ever heard of the 300 foot-long Israeli designed and outfitted helo-carrying Sa'ar 5 missile corvettes? Most country's battle ships don't have the firepower or ASW or surveilance capabilities of these.

Or the state of the art Dolphin-class submarines?

These two classes of vessels are blue-water, but true enough we have never seen a need for such a thing in the past. The money quoted here is no where near the true cost of maintaining a significant blue-water navy.

We do have Jericho III missiles with a 7000 mile range, too. And fighters with the longest operational range in the world.
