Personally. I *don't* think the human mind is fully capable of discerning truth from fiction. I think we mostly base decisions on emotions, and fiction that triggers real emotions does imprint the mind.
None of which is to say that fiction should be outlawed, but that its content does matter.

Anecdotal support of this assertion:
Stanley Kubrick's seminal dystopian film 'A Clockwork Orange' (adapted from the novel by Anthony Burgess) was banned in Britain for 30 years. Kubrick feared that young hoodlums who saw it might copy the brutal and senseless crimes of the anti-heroic characters in the film.
People cannot distinguish between fact and fiction. Certainly the success of social engineering seems to suggest the truth in this assertion.

Wise for whom? For you, no. Stick ONLY to criticism, fantastic or otherwise about Christians and you will be ok. Do NOT under ANY circumstances criticize Jews or Moslems, even in jest. The former will hound you to high heaven, the latter, cut off your head.

Fortunately for you, bookstores and libraries go to the great trouble of putting fiction on a separate shelf, usually with a sign labeled 'Fiction' over it.
And, if you're too nearsighted to read that, Doubleday, the publisher of _The Da Vinci Code_, prints the following inside the cover:
'All of the characters and events in this book are fictitious, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.'
..unless, of course, you think they're lying...

Worth pointing out that it wasn't banned BY Britain, but by Kubrick, who withdrew it and would not allow it to be shown in his lifetime.

What are you talking about Jews were quite upset by 'The Passion of Christ' and Muslims are very upset about the Da Vinci code too.

Hell yes. America is a capitalist society. The book has made millions - the movie will, too. Thousands have been employed by it, and hundreds of thousands in tax revenues.
All a good thing.

Odd, since not only was it shown in his lifetime, but debuted in 1972, was subsequently nominated for 4 oscars (including best picture), and has grossed millions in direct showings and video and DVD sales.
